Merida is one of the cities of Venezuela that are prominent for their cultural heritage and hospitality. It is located in Merida State, one of the 23 states of Venezuela. The city is very close to the highest point in Venezuela, Andes. Every year, Merida welcomes a large number of tourists and offers them a wide variety of activities to indulge in.

Travelling to Merida

You may enter Merida using different modes of transportation. They include:

By Air – The city does not have its own airport. Those who travel by air to this city do so by landing at El Vigia Juan Pablo Perez Alfonzo Airport. The airport is located in one of the 23 municipalities of Merida State, Alberto Adriani Municipalty. The distance between El Vigia Juan Pablo Perez Alfonzo Airport and the center of Merida is approximately 75 kilometers.

By Road – Many tourists travel from nearby cities to Merida by road because of the breathtakingly beautiful landscape that they get to see on the way. There are two ways you can travel by road – car and buses. Bus services from Barinas, Maracay, Caracas and other cities of Venezuela to Merida are available.

Travelling within Merida

When travelling within Merida, you can choose one or more of these options.

Rent-a-Car Services – Renting a car is more comfortable an option when you have your family with you, your stay is supposed to be longer than a week and you intend to travel in different cities within Venezuela.

Taxis – Travelling by a taxi registered with a taxi service is the safest means of transportation within the city of Merida.

Trolley Bus Rapid-Transit System / Buses – Currently more than 15 rapid transit stations are open for the public. These buses go to every nook and corner of Merida.
