“A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” – Lao Tzu
Coro, officially known as Santa Ana De Coro, is one of the oldest Venezuelan cities. Being the capital of the Falcon state, charming Coro was founded on 26th July by Juan De Ampies when it appeared on the map of the world. The city is strategically located at the south of the famous Paraguana Peninsula, flanked on both sides by the scenic Coro National Park.
While the city’s history, well preserved colonies, exceptional republican architecture and eccentric culture has earned it a reputation that will not wane anytime soon, what has actually brought the city to the limelight is the fact that it was appointed as the World Heritage Site in 1995 given all that it has to offer. Coro is the first site in Venezuela that has been honored with such a title by UNESCO. The title has played its role in drawing an endless stream of visitors to Coro who never seem to get enough of it.
As far as weather is concerned, the city has a peninsular climate. This entails that rainfall in the area is insufficient resulting in droughts. Rainy season is from October to December but for those who wish to experience Coro’s fun in the sun, anytime of the year is appropriate.
The plethora of well-preserved structures and sites in the city was the sole reason that earned the city the prestigious title. This way, a trip to Coro is all about traveling back in time where one is simply overwhelmed by the surroundings. Some of the most talked about attractions in Coro are:
